Following their visits to road projects in the provincial areas, the National Roads Authority (NRA), together with the Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MOTWI) over the weekend continued their ongoing roads inspection tour to the OIC 50km Urban Roads project Lot 1&2 respectively.
The Works Ministry headed by the Minister Ebrima Sillah and the NRA delegation led by its Deputy Managing Director, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh started the tour at Lot 1, P16 – which connects Kanifing Hospital to GTMI road (0.75km); P2- which links the Kanifing Hospital to Bertil Harding (Methodise) and Estate Road (2.80km); P15- 2.68km Bundung Highway and P10- 1.26km project which starts from Sukuta Junction Ba to Bakoteh Hermann Gmeiner Road (Amsterdam).
They also inspect the Lot 2 P6 – Kololi Tavern – Bijilo – Brufut road project (8.60km) and P9 – Sukuta – Wullingkama – Brufut Ghana Town road project (8.35km).
Meanwhile, Lot 1 roads project are contracted to SSTP, CSE JV, and Al Fahd JV, and the Consultants are Pace and Games, while the Lot 2 roads are contracted to Pavi Ford, Gambisara Enterprise, and Huta JV, respectively, and the consultants are Pace and Games.
This visit is part of the inspection of the finishing touches of the sectional completion of various roads that have been assigned to the contractor to be completed by the 15th of November, 2024.
Speaking after the site visits, Hon. Ebrima Sillah, Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, said he’s extremely happy with what he has seen in both Lot 1&2, noting that the level of progress is on precedent.
“The contractor has imported the streetlights in some sections of the road in Lot 1 and will soon be fixed before the scheduled deadline. The remaining works are also part of the sectional completion exercise by the contractor and to be handed over to the government,” Minister Sillah further said.
According to him, the roads are coming out safe and the final beneficiaries are extremely happy both in Lot 1&2.
For his part, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, Deputy Managing Director of the National Roads Authority, said they are somehow pleased, not one hundred percent satisfied with the current ongoing works in both Lot 1&2.
“We understand it is still an ongoing project and there has been a lot of work and improvements that have been made in recent times. We want to give a continuity of improvement a chance to see what’s going to happen,” said the NRA DMD
According to him, they are not very satisfied but are pleased with the level of achievement that has been set by both the contractor and consultant.
Joseph Raymond Sandy, Project Director, Pavi Ford, Gambisara Enterprise, and Huta JV construction company said they are optimistic of handing over some portion while working on other portions in Lot 2
According to him, Lot 2 is divided into three sections, and they are optimistic about handing milestones 1 and 2 to the government next year, 2025.
