Central Badibou Chief Cautions Gardenersto Create Fire Belts Around Gardens

The Chief of Central Badibou has cautionedgardeners to adopt all safety measures against fire, including the creation of fire belts around their gardens. 

Speaking to The Voice in Njaba Kunda on Sunday, chief Alagie Jagne was speaking to VOICE on Sunday in Njaba Kunda describedbushfire as threat to forest development and,therefore, reiterated that the Central Badibboudistrict tribunal has adopted a zero-tolerancestance against such practices.

He advised gardeners and communities to be proactive in bushfire management, citing thecreation of fire belt around gardens as an effective measure against fire outbreaks in gardens and settlements. 

He highlighted the need for total protection of trees and grazing areas, noting that it promotes the health and wellbeing of livestock and small ruminants.  

Commenting on women’s inclusion in the Central Baddibou district tribunal, chief Jagne lauded Action Aid International and KerewanArea Council for their support to the initiative, noting that it has contributed to the empowerment of women in expressingthemselves and getting fair dispensation of justice.  

Central Badibou chief called on farmers to preserve groundnut seeds and thanked theMinistry of Agriculture for the timely delivery of farm inputs in the form of improvedvarieties and high-quality fertilizer. 

Chief Jagne also tasked herders to control their livestock to avoid destruction of farm produce, noting this will promote social cohesion and peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.
