The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) issued a press release to inform the general public of its recent arrests of 40 individuals for alleged possession of various types of drugs in diverse locations in the country.
“Thirty-nine (39) of the arrestees are male and the remaining one is a female. Equally, thirty-four (34) are Gambians, two (2) Nigerians, two (2) Senegalese, one (1) Sierra Leonean and one (1) Bissau Guinean National,” the release states.
It also pointed out that 23 of the suspects were arrested in the West Coast Region, six in KanifingMunicipality, Seven in Banjul, two in North Bank Region, one in Central River Region and the remaining one in the Lower River Region.
In the West Coast Region, the release stated, 44-year-old Chinedu J. Emeka and 36-year-old Christian Sunday both Nigerian nationals were arrested at Tanji on 6 November 2024, at around 15:22 hours GMT onward, with 9,844 pills of ecstasy concealed in multi coloured nylon bags, empty peak milk pots and empty body lotions pots.
“Babucarr Ndow, a resident of Tanji and a fisherman by profession, was arrested on the 29th of October 2024 at around 19:30 hours GMT onward with (11) wraps of suspected kush. Sheikh Jallow, a resident of Busumbala and a porter at Jah Oil Factory, was arrested at Farato on the 29th of October 2024 at around 17:24 hours GMT onward with (29) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed in a black nylon bag.Omar Sarr was arrested at Bafuloto on the 30th of October 2024 at around 11:45 hours GMT onward with (61) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa,” the release further stated.
It also disclosed that 24-year-old Bubacarr Sowe was arrested at Farato on the 30 October 2024, at around 12:00 hours GMT onward with 93 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.
“20-year-old Fatou Jeng, a resident of Wellingara, was arrested at secret night club located in Senegambia on the 1st of November 2024 at around 08:10 hours GMT onward with (8) pills of ecstasy. 46-years-old Modou Jobe, a resident of Wullinkama, was arrested by Serrekunda DLEAG station on the 1st of November 2024 at around 19:45 hours GMT onward with (3) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed in empty rice and sugar bag respectively,” the release stated.
The release added that 18-year-old Buba Fofana, a resident of Jarra Karantaba, was arrested at Kalagi checkpoint on 9 November 2024, at around 08:05 hours GMT onward with one big bundle of suspected cannabis sativa while others were also arrested at various locations with hard substances.
