Essa Jallow, Deputy Commissioner General of The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), has his office objective to train 40 members of the Gambian Women’s Chamber of Commerce to deepen their understanding of taxpayers’ rights as well as the process and procedures of paying tax and duties in the Gambia.
He made these remarks on Wednesday at the opening of a two-day training of 40 members of the Gambian Women’s Chamber of Commerce at Senegambia Beach Hotel. The training is funded by GRA and according to the organiser is part of the GRAs current strategic plan 2020-2024.
He further stated that the training is also meant to enhance client service delivery for improved customer relations and corporate image.
He told the participants that the presentation by facilitators would highlight key reform initiatives being implemented to enhance efficiency in the revenue collection process.
He pointed out that GWCC members have been encouraged by the GRA about their tax compliance matters and this has greatly improved their understanding of the importance of paying taxes and duties and is contributing to the development of the country.
He assured GWCC members that their partnership with GRA will be a continuous process as it strives to transform and automate the revenue collection process.
“The authority launched the automated costume data (ASYCUDA world) in June 2022, since the implementation of the system has significantly increased the authority’s monthly revenue collection.
The authority is in the process of replacing the domestic tax system with GAMTAXNET a more robust web-based system (ITAS) to facilitate online payment and filing of tax returns and significantly burden on taxpayers in the process of paying their taxes,” he told participants.
He added that GRA in collaboration with other partners started the implementation of the single window platform that integrates all agencies involved in the Gambia international cross-trade ecosystem to enhance efficiency in the clearance of goods.
