Accountant General’s Dept. Names Officials for Failing toRetire Over D19M Outstanding Imprests

The Accountant General’s Department (AGD) has issued a press release on Wednesday, naming 40 individuals whom, it said, have failed to retire outstanding imprests worth over D19M on the due date of 30 September 2024.

The Director General of Public Utilities and Regulatory Authority (PURA) also the former Secretary General, Head of Civil Service and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr. Njogu L.Bah, has been named by the Accountant General’s Department in a press release, containing the list of persons, who failed to retire imprests, totaling D19,465701 during their times in office

“In line with the Government of the Gambia’s efforts to ensure compliance with the requirement to retire all outstanding impreston the due date, the Accountant General’s Department hereby informs the under-listed officials that they are required to duly retire or make the following payments outlined below, on unretired imprest issued in their names following regulation 28 (Sub Regulation 7, 10 & 11) of the Finance Regulation 2016,” the release stated.

It could be recalled that the Accountant General, Agnes Macaulay, appeared before the National Assembly’s Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) to seek for the committee’s assistance in making sure that all imprests are paid.

 In furtherance of this, the Department through the press release,stated that Dr. Bah is yet to retire or make payments for the sum of D5,000,000 (five million Dalasi) that was miscellaneously given to him in 2010.
Other people on the list include but are not limited to one Fatou Jassey Kuyateh (Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs) who is said to have yet to retire or make payments for an amount of D100,000,00 from 2009. Alkali M Jabbie also from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs is also reportedly to retire or make payments for the sum of D634,540 (2009).

Those named from the Office of the President are Mr. YankubaColley who is expected to retire D149,000,00, Mrs. Ida Faye-Hydara – D50,000,00, Yankuba Touray – D247,000,00, ModouSaidy, and Mr. Mustapha A. Faal-  D1, 033,740.00 since 2010.
