Last Friday, Bethel Methodist Church, one of the oldest and most revered religious institutions in The Gambia celebrated its 130 years anniversary with a vibrant evening service filled with joy reflections and gratitude.
The celebration brought together congregants, community leaders and visitors from across the country who were all united in honouring over century commitment to faith, service and community development.
Opened on 15 November 1894, Bethel Methodist Church has played a significant role in the spiritual and social fabric of Gambian society. The anniversary service featured heartfelt message from both local and international church leaders, who shared stories of the church’s historical significance and its evolution. The event also included a special musical rendition by the church choir, which captivated attendees with traditional hymns and contemporary gospel songs, reflecting the church’s rich cultural heritage.
It was noting that the church is credited with a lot of achievements in the health and education sector of the country. It is also the home church of Edward Francis Small, the historical human and people’s right defender of The Gambia.
