Jallow’s Lone Goal Sees EFFA/Sangkung Sillah Through to Semi-Final

By: Penda Joof

Magie Jallow’s lone goal for EFFA/Sangkung Sillah FC was enough to boot out B.K Central in the on-going Wave-Sponsored Knockout quarter-final of the Serekunda West Sports Development Association’s Summer Nawettan on Sunday, 17th November, 2024.

In a tightly-contested affair in the first half that ended goalless, both teams resumed hostilities with an awareness of the repercussions of conceding the first goal in this all-important encounter.

Magie Jallow gave EFFA/Sangkung Sillah the lead in the 71st minute of play after an error from BK Central’s net-minder, Ansoumana Sama, which left many supporters disappointed.

EFFA/Sangkung Sillah FC though performed below par during the initial stages of this year’s tournament which resulted in their relegation from the Nawettan. If they manage to win the Knockout Cup, the team will make their way back into the Nawettan next season as per the rules of the committee, governing the Serekunda West Sports Development Association’s Summer Nawettan.

Modou Lamin Sanyang, head coach of EFFA/Sankung Sillah, stated that the game was good for them because they had a bad start but after working on their mistakes and encouraging his boys to try and focus on their objectives, they have recovered.

‘’We are working hard so that we can win the Wave-Sponsored Knockout and continue taking part in the Nawettan as we are already relegated. Many of our players left because of our bad start and the relegation but right now, we are working hard on it and fighting for this trophy,’’ he stated during an interview with this medium.

Abdoulie Touray, the head coach of B.K Central, blamed the committee for the loss his team endured.

‘’I am blaming the committee for our loss because the floodlights didn’t favour us, it plays significant role to my team conceding that goal a lot. The goalkeeper already caught the ball, but when the reflection of the lights interfered, the goalkeeper could not do enough to save and eventually the ball went straight into the net.’’
