The acting PRO of the Gambia Police Force(GPF), Cadet Inspector Sainabou Manjang, has said that preliminary investigations revealed that 25-year-old Essa Colley, compliance officer of Global Tracking and Maritime Solutions, fell into the sea and died while trying to urinate at the New Wharf in Banjul.

It would be recalled that Essa Colley drowned at the New Wharf in Banjul on 16 November 2024, between 00:00 and 00:30.

In a brief interview with this reporter on Monday, Cadet Inspector Manjang disclosed that Essa was sleeping at Denton Bridge, stating that when he woke up while trying to urinate at Banjul New Wharf, he fell into the sea and died.

”Preliminary investigations reveal that Essa Colley, a 25-year-old compliance officer with Global Tracking and Maritime Solutions (GTMS), fell into the sea while attempting to urinate after waking up in an empty container near the edge of the wharf. Despite witnesses hearing his cries for help, they were unable to rescue him as he was swept away by strong waves. Personal items, including his helmet, shoes, and clipboard were recovered at the scene,” said acting PRO Manjang.

PRO Manjang said that after an extensive search, the body was found at approximately 18:00 by the Crime Investigation team from the police and it was identified by his brother, Salifu Colley. The body, she further explained, was then retrieved and transported to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, where Essa was pronounced dead.
