Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, has disclosed in a recent meeting at Sabah Sanjal that his government will be making monthly payment to identified categories of people in the country, which include women-run households.

The President stated that the government proposed a funding of this gesture, which will be facilitated by the Office of the Vice President, but many people did not know about it yet and will continue without stoppage.

‘’We have a funding under the Office of the Vice President that many Gambians did not know about. We selected people, who we believe, are very poor, very old and women-run households. These selected individuals amounted to about 3,000 people. All of these people are responsible householders. Every month, the government will pay them and this gesture will continue forever. Every year, the government will propose the facilitation of these payments in the budget. At the moment, we have started that,’’ the President disclosed to the gathering at Sabach Sanjal during the ‘Meet The People Tour’.

In the past, Alkalolu were promised a monthly salary by the President. However, some Alkalolu complained of not receiving this after several months. The President gave assurance in a recent meeting for a continuous payment of this recent gesture as I will be proposed annually in the budget.

He promised that his government will continue to consider the plight of all Gambians so long he remains the leader of the country.
