Cambel Town has made it to the finals of this year’s Africell-sponsored Serekunda West Summer Nawattan league by defeating high-flying Erejang FC in a semi-final encounter played last Saturday at the Serekuda West Mini Stadium.
Cambel Town’s talisman, Abdoulie ‘Tafik’ Kah opened the scoring for his team in the 15th minute of the game, only for Erejang, and Joseph Jatta to level scores 17 minutes later.
With both teams in dire need of the all-important winning goal, both teams canceled out each other, and the game ended in a stalemate at the end of regulation time. This gave fans the extra thrill of watching a closely contested penalty shootout that was won by 5 goals to 4 by Cambel Town.
Coach Ismaila Sonko of Cambel Town attributed his team’s victory to their hard work and determination to succeed which was exhibited by his wards. He recalled that his team faced many challenges during the season but managed to scale through it all and achieve what they had never achieved before.
“We have faced challenges since we were at the group stage. This team has reached a level where they never reached,” an overjoyed Coach Ismaila stated.
He added that his boys worked very hard at training, which manifested itself during the game. He went on to urge patience, respect, and hard work as key drivers to every player’s successful career.
For Coach Patrick Sambou of Erejang FC, it was a well-contested game. His boys gave their all, but luck deserted them during the penalty shootouts.
