Magistrate K.B Sambou of the Brikama Magistrates’ Courtlast Friday order the remand in custody of two Senegalese nationals at Mile II following their denial of the allegation of purchasing with forged Gambian Dalasi notes.

On count one, the duo was charged with conspiracy to commita felony, contrary to section 368 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Vol.3 of the Laws of The Gambia (2009).

The particulars of count one read that Hadim Njie and Alieu Njie on or about 15 November 2024, at Mandinaba and its diverse places, jointly conspired amongst themselves to commit a felony-to wit-purchasing forged banknotes.

On count two, the prosecution charged the duo with the offence of purchasing forged banknotes in contravention ofsection 334 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Vol. 3 of theLaws of The Gambia (2009).

According to the particulars of the offense, Hadim Njie and Alieu Njie on or about 15 November 2024, at Mandinaba and its diverse places, purchased or had in their possession D210,400.00 forged banknotes; thereby committed an offence.

The two accused persons denied wrongdoing when the charges were read out to them.

The prosecution, led by ASP Buteh Sawaneh, raised an objection to bail for the accused persons on the grounds that the matter was still being investigated and that the accused persons are non-Gambians and might flee the jurisdiction ifgranted bail. The prosecution argued that they might interfere with the investigations if granted liberty.

The court granted the prosecution’s application and issued an order for the remand of the accused at Mile II.

The case was then adjourned to 10 December 2024, for the full trial.
