The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) with funding from UNDP on Sunday began a three-day training for Village Disaster Management Committee.
The idea is to help participants in the development of strategic community disaster risk mitigation action plan.
Themed Together We Can Build Resiliance to Disaster is underway in Saaba village in Lower Badibou, North Bank Region.
Baboucarr Fofana Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at National Disaster Management in his remarks at the opening ceremony of the training noted that the engagement is aimed at creating awareness of the community disaster risk mitigation action plan to enhance the quality of response and reduce vulnerability to disasters. He added that the training would help Saaba to develop a three-year action plan to mitigate and enhance resilience.
Fofana emphasized that communities need to take ownership of disaster prevention and response.
He called on the community of Saaba to be vigilant and work with Regional Disaster Management Coordination Office in Kerewan.
Chief Fabala Fadia Kinteh of Lower Badibou thanked NDMA and UNDP for the training, noting that it would contribute to enhancing resource mobilization at all level for timely disaster response.
Data Entry Clerk at Regional Disaster Coordination Office, Abdoulie Njie, said the involvement of women, youth, volunteers and local authorities in the training is aimed at enhancing communication and coordination on disasters and humanitarian response.
Alkalo Njama Sighateh of Saaba described the training as important, noting that it would enhance understanding of disasters and cooperation.
