Police Officer Testifies in Briton’s Murder Case

Chief Inspector, Landing Naso, attached to Tujereng police station on Monday continued his testimony in the ongoingmurder case of a British woman Shakina Chinedu.

According to court records, Augustine Bangura on or about 14 February 2024, at Sinchang village in the West Coast Region of The Gambia, allegedly caused the death of Shaikina by hitting her with a hammer at the back of her neck, resulting inher death.

The third prosecution witness Chief -Inspector Naso said under cross-examination by defense lawyer S. Ade that Shaikina’s body was found inside the compound that was under construction at the time.

Chief Inspector Naso explained that during the discovery of the deceased’s body, there was no suspect or accused in mind, stating that the complainants with their Gambian partners identified the body of the deceased.  When quizzed by lawyer Ade as to whether the deceased’s body was completely covered by soil, he responded that he would reserve his comment, adding that he was not at the crime scene. Defenselawyer Ade then suggested to the witness that the items thatthe police recovered from the deceased’s house were stolen from her house at Brusubi Phase Two, the witness responded in the affirmative. He said that some of the items that were stolen from the deceased’s house were stolen by the accused Augustine Bangura.

According to officer Naso, Augustine led the investigators in recovering and identifying the deceased’s properties during which he also confessed that he stole her properties at BrusubiPhase Two.     

Meanwhile, according to the particulars of count two, Augustine on or about 14 February 2024, at Sinchang village in the West Coast Region of The Gambia, allegedly stole from Shakina D80,000, two laptops, a tablet, flash drives, keys, a cannon camera and bank and correspondence cards from her bag and apartment.
