Justice G. A. Kwabeng of the Kanifing High Court last Thursday adjourned Alhagie Jabbi and Mustapha Jabbi’s 1.45 million US Dollar gold lawsuit filed against The Gambia International Airlines, and ten others for hearing.
According to the claims before the court filed by Jabbi brothers through their lawyer Kebba Sanyang is seeking an order from the court for a recovery of a sum of USD 1,045,000 or its equivalent in Gambian Dalasis from The Gambia International Airlines, The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, Euro Africa Airlines Security Limited, Babanding Kanyi, Buba Bojang, Ebrima Jorbateh, Alimatou Riley, Bakary Sanneh, Fatou Bojang, Ismaila Baldeh, and Omar Jarju, being the value of 19kg of gold owned by Alhagie Jabbi and Mustapha Jabbi, which was allegedly converted by the defendants at the Banjul International Airport.
Lawyer Sanyang is also seeking an order from the court for the defendants in the suit to pay D3 million as damages,25% interest from June 2023 to the date of Judgment, and $90, 000 US Dollars for administrative costs, among other claims.
However, lawyer Sanyang, last Thursday told the court that he would endeavour to serve the 5th and 11th defendants, Buba Bojang and Omar Jarju with a notice of hearing.
Meanwhile, Fatou Bojang, Ebrima Jorbateh, Alimatou Riley, and Bakary Sanneh all from GCAA, and one Ismaila Baldeh from Euro Africa Airlines Security were all absent from court.
Defense lawyer V. Andrews represented The Gambia International Airlines, while defense lawyer Solomon C. Jatta appeared for The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, staff Ebrima Jorbateh, Alimatou Riley, Bakary Sanneh, and Fatou Bojang.
