Bundung Water Crisis to End Today

By: Victor Ofuonye

Ebima Seckan, Senior Marketing Manager of the Water Division at the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has revealed that the malignant water crisis that residents of Bundung and its suburbs have been facing for some time now, will be over Today, Monday 2nd December 2024.

Mr. Seckan made this disclosure at the 8th Edition of the PURA Consumer Parliament that was held at PURA Head office along Kairaba Avenue, Saturday, November 30 2024.

Seckan was responding to questions from Bundung residents as per their challenges in accessing the water services of NAWEC in their locality.

“We have gotten approval from the Gambia Public Procurement Authority (GPPA) and are working on extending the main pipes so that all of Bundung can have water. Our big issue was that the women of Bundug, some time ago vandalized our water facility at Bundung by turning the place into a market, thereby causing a big problem for water in the area.” he explained.

Seckan went further to add that the proliferation of sewage pits in the area had rendered water from the area unsafe for human consumption due to the high bacteria contents of water from there. He went further to reveal that NAWEC has successfully dug a borehole in Sukuta, which is expected to serve the area.

“We have dug a borehole in Sukuta and are currently laying the pipe to Bundung and quite hopeful that come Monday, the water crisis in Bundung will become a thing of the past,” an elated Seckan enthused.

Readers will recall that residents of Bundung have been hit by severe water outages that have made life difficult for people living in that area. It is given the sufferings of the poor masses of Bundung, that the good tidings of ending the acute water problems of the locality is indeed a welcomed development.
