Mamadou Bah, a 72-year-old Septuagenarian and resident of Bundung has revealed a protracted wait that he has been made to go through by NAWEC for the approval for water services for his compound at Bundung.

A frustrated Mr. Bah in a telephone call, narrated his ordeals at the hands of NAWEC to an alarmed audience at the 8th Edition of the PURA Consumer Parliament that was held at PURA Head office along Kairaba Avenue, Saturday, November 30, 2024.

“I have been applying for water services for my compound in Bandung, which is situated at the junction before the BundungPolice Station from NAWEC since 1986. I have made a total of 6 applications to date and am yet to get the services I have been asking for. I was 34 years old when I did the first application in 1986 and am now 72 years old, meaning that for 38 years, NAWEC has yet to grant my application, and nor give me any cogent reason as to why they cannot do so,” an emotionally vexed Mr. Bah narrated.

Continuing his narration, Mr. Bah further revealed that he has met with several managers of NAWEC on his predicament but that to date, he has yet to get the issue resolved as they all keep promising to do something about it, yet nothing has been done.

Responding to Mr. Bah’s complaints, Ebima Seckan, Senior Marketing Manager of the Water Division at the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) was apologetic for the sufferings of Mr. Bah and people like him living in Bundung. He revealed that the issue with such complaints is that NAWEC can only connect people, whose houses according to him are within reasonable distances from the main pipes.

“We can only connect people who are within reasonable connectable distances from the main pipes, and by reasonable connectable distances, I mean a distance of 75 meters from our mains. Anything beyond 75 meters, such customers will have to pay for it,” Seckan clarified.
