Cambel Town FC Dethrones Bilbao FC in SWESO League Championship

Cambel Town denied Bilbao FC from defending their crown in Serekunda West Sports Development Organisation’s league final held on Sunday from the post-match penalty shootout after a thrilling goalless draw during the regulation. The competition was sponsored by Africell.

Cambel Town FC’s first final in fifteen years in the competition has seen them rising to the throne and celebrating gold medal in the club’s history at the Serekunda West Sports Development Organisation’s summer tournament.

Bilbabo FC was the winner of the league cup last season and has won the super cup at the start of the Nawettan season. The team has never conceded a goal throughout the entire Nawettan season this year. They are eliminated from the Wave-Sponsored knockout at a post-match penalty shootout.

After the game, the Voice Newspaper sounded the opinion of Isamaila Sonko, the head coach of Cambel Town FC, said it was a well displayed and balanced game because both two teams have shown their efforts to win and the game was played with discipline.

‘’At the end, the result came to our favour. It is a very big opportunity for us after a 15-year struggle for a trophy. Today, we have finally won what we have been searching for. Everybody who participated in our cause has a stake in the victory,’’ he stated.

He expressed his happiness about the performance of his boys in giving his team a victory.

Francis Gomez, the head coach of Bilbabo FC, in post-match interviews with this reporter, said it is a fair contest, although his boys crafted many scoring chances but squandered all He added that they prepared very well for the game, but football is about loss or win, especially in finals.

Bakary Y Badjie, the Minister of Youth and Sports, acknowledged the respect and discipline shown by both teams with highly entertaining encounters. 

‘’I visited both teams and talked to them that football is not about violence or creating fights, instead it is all about competition and respect the decision of the reference, and accept the fact that who wins deserves the victory. I encourage everyone one to do the same in any sports tournament to be violence free,’’ he added.
