Jeshwang City defended its knockout crown for the third time in a row after beating Blackpool FC in the 2024 Wave-sponsored final at Serekunda West Sports Development Organisation’s summer Nawettan on Friday, 29th November.
Omar Pabi Jammeh gave the defending champions the lead in the 50th of the game. As the game proceeds with both side negotiating their way to the crown, newly introduced Sadibou Sallah of Blackpool FC levelled score goal in the 64th minute of the game. Jeshwang City FC introduced Sarjo Badjie, who scored a brilliant finish in the 75th minute to put the defending champions, JeshwangCity FC, back on track to win the trophy for a third successful season. It ended 2-1 in favour of Jeshwang boys.
Abdouaziz Badjie, the assistant coach of Jeshwang City, expressed delight of winning the trophy for the third time in a row. He recognised the great performance shown by their opponent.
‘’We know it won’t be easy for us because it is a derby game and the result is very impressive. Winning this trophy for three consecutive years for the first time in the history of the SWESO summer tournament is not an easy job to do. We could have scored more than two goals in the game had we taken all our chances,’’ he told The Voice in a post-match interview.
Samuel Loe Manga, the head coach of Blackpool FC, said they lost the game due to a lack of concentration. He stated finals are special games that are not only play for any sake, but something you yearn to win.
‘’Both the two goals we conceded are due to lack of concentration, but we will learn from those errors to improve our mentality and concentration. We are still in a learning process because we came from far way, and we the coaches too we will learn from it so that next year we will come and compete again without making the same mistakes,’’ he cited.
Sarjo Badjie, the match winner for Jeshwang City, expressed delight for the scoring the winner to help his side defend their crown.
