Dr. Njogu L. Bah, the Director General of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority PURA has emphasized that the Authority is committed to combatting Cyber Bullying in the country. Dr. Bah made this known through his statements at the 8th Edition of the PURA Consumer Parliament that was held at PURA Head offices along Kairaba Avenue, last Saturday, 30th November 2024.

“It is undeniable that technology serves as a double-edged sword. While it brings great benefits, it also poses risks, particularly to young people who are often the most vulnerable,” said Dr. Bah.

The PURA DG went on to note that the rise of digital platforms has transformed the way we communicate, but that it has also created new avenues for harassment, abuse, and misinformation. PURA as a regulator of the ICT Sector Bah affirmed, recognizes its role in educating and empowering young people to use technology responsibly and protect themselves against these risks.

“Cyber Bullying has become an increasingly serious issue, and we have a shared duty and responsibility to engage in open discussions to raise awareness of these threats and encourage protective measures. We must foster a culture of respect and kindness in our digital interactions, empowering individuals to stand against bullying in all its forms,” Dr.Njogu Bah declared.

He went on to state that his institution is collaborating with relevant authorities to establish effective policies and laws that combat cyberbullying.
