President Adama Barrow has renewed his call on Gambians to prioritise the maintenance of peace and stability in the country enable everyone get a fair share of the national development his government “yearns” to achieve.

Addressing the people of West Coast Region as part of the constitutionally-mandated Meet the People Tour in Kuloro in Kombo East, the president enjoined all citizens to play a part in the cause, stating that government alone cannot stabilise the country, adding that the entire population has a stake in the maintenance of peace.

President Adama Barrow on Tuesday told the people of Kuloro and surrounding communities that the government is aware of people, trying to sow seed of protest in the minds ofsome citizens against government decisions, saying such attitudes are not helpful to national development.

“We know that there are some people, who are misinforming the general public, saying things that can make citizens angry about government’s decisions so that they can protest against my government. Such is not helpful to anyone-either to them or to the citizens,’’ he stated.

Mr. Barrow advised against the incitement of violence “when seeking positions from the people of the country but all should advocate for a peaceful coexistence”.

“If you are yearning for a position, one should not resort to violence as means to get yourself any position. Instead, you should maintain an already existing peace and stability. With that, you may be lucky to get that position you yearn for, but this is the opposite in The Gambia,’’ said Mr. Barrow.

He added that one can freely express his/her dislike of him as the President but that it cannot be true if anyone says he/shedoes not see what he achieved in terms of the development ofin the country.

The Gambian leader stated that he succeeded in bringingdevelopment to West Coast, North Bank, Lower River, Upper River and Central River regions, Kanifing Municipality and Banjul.

Skills Acquisition

The president encouraged Gambian youth to acquire skills free of charge at various skills training centres his governmentbuilt across the country for improved living conditions.

“If you learn skills in this country and work hard, your earnings will be more than what you can earn abroad. I was living abroad so did Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Dr. Demba Saballyand many others, but we all decided to run back home because we realised that what we can earn here will be more than our earnings abroad,’’ president Barrow emphasized as he advised the youth that attended the meeting.

The president posited that The Gambia can be only developedby her citizens, saying Europe and other Western nations were developed by their citizens, who stayed in their countries and worked hard to develop them, adding that The Gambia can only be develop by dint of hard work.
