The Network against Gender Based Violence (NGBV), with its partners, is on a mission to raise awareness and empower communities to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV)through its 16 Days of Activism caravan.

The caravan team, consisting of dedicated individuals from different sub-committees, is conducting information sessions, facilitating discussions, and engaging with community leaders to address harmful gender norms and promote gender equality.

Day one of the caravan started in Chamen Nianija School field with a friendly football match to bring the community together. Isatou Bah, a member of the caravan team, emphasized the importance of giving females a chance to engage in sports and highlighted the prevalence of gender-based violence in the sports industry. Recognition was given to both Conteh FC and Chamen FC,  awarding them a sum of D2000 each. The sport committee was also honored with two footballs.

The caravan then moved to Chamen village, where VDC chairman Ebrima Njie welcomed the team and spoke about the importance of collective action in fighting against GBV. Isatou Bah delivered a speech on addressing harmful practices such as FGM, early marriage, and domestic violence. Lamin Kebbeh, a child welfare officer, stressed the need for enforcing laws against these violations and working closely with communities to protect vulnerable individuals.

Community members actively participated in discussions on GBV, with those providing correct answers receiving educational materials and other incentives. Local resident Momodou Cham closed the event by reiterating the impact of gender-based violence, particularly FGM, on society.

As the NGBV 16 Days of Activism caravan continues its journey, the focus remains on empowering communities to take action against gender-based violence. By raising awareness, advocating for change, and engaging with local leaders, the caravan team is making a significant impact in the fight against GBV.
