Magistrate I.O. Njie of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of one Foday Juwara at Mile II on allegation of severely beating his step-mother.
Foday has been charged with assault, causing actual bodily harm.
The prosecution alleged that Foday on or about 22 November 2024, at Kartong village, Kombo South, unlawfully assaulted one Maimuna Jatta by punching her on the face and beating her all over her body, causing her actual bodily harm.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution, led by deputy Superintendent ButehSawaneh, objected to bail for Foday, stating that “the issue is a family matter and both the victim and the accused live in the same compound”.
“If the accused person goes back to the compound, it may cause another problem as the mother of the accused and the victim share the same husband. And it is not safe for the victim to stay in the compound with the accused. Currently, she is in pain, resulting from the beating she suffered. Additionally, the condition of the victim is not stable, and the safety of the accused should be protected. Moreover, the situation in the compound right now is tense,” Superintendent Sawaneh explained.
The matter was adjourned to 22 December 2024, and Fodaywas ordered to be remanded at Mile II until the resumption of the matter.
