NAWEC Fires Treasury Manager, Suspends Finance Director Over ‘Financial Misconduct’

The National Water and Electricity Company [NAWEC] has taken a decisive action in response to alleged financial misconduct by two of its staff by terminating the services of its Treasury Manager Baboucarr Secka, while suspending finance director Cherno Omar Cham.

NAWEC, in a press release, stated that it has reached a decision to terminate the services of its treasury manager and suspend the director of finance following allegations of misconduct, involving a telephone conversation between himand a purported supplier.

‘’The alleged conversation involved unauthorized financial arrangements in violation of company policies and ethical standards. NAWEC has a zero-tolerance stance on unethical practices and a strong commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of the resources,’’ the releasestated.

NAWEC added that the police and the NAWEC team are conducting comprehensive investigations into the matter.

“If the allegations are substantiated, the company will take decisive disciplinary and legal actions in line with its internal policies and national laws,” vowed NAWEC. 

The national water and electricity company appeals to the public and the media to exercise restraint while investigations are underway, adding that updates will be communicated promptly.
