Darboe Urges Gambians to Sideline Tribal Politicians

Ousainou Darboe, leader of the opposition United Democratic Party, has strongly urged Gambians in a Brikamaba meeting to get rid of politicians who instigate ‘tribal politics to divide citizens for political gains.

The veteran politician stressed that Gambians should not allow any politicians to swindle them into tribal politics, citing that he was praised by those employing such negative attribution against his party in trying to make Gambians believe that UDP is for a specific tribe.

“Those coming to you and trying to instigate tribal politics saying the United Democratic Party is a Mandinka Party, these were the very people singing goodness praises for me years ago in a press conference in Banjul, but today they are saying otherwise.

My position is that the Jolas, Fulas, Wollofs, Mandinkas, and the rest of the tribes jointly make a country called The Gambia. We do not segregate anyone. So, I am advising you to reject politicians who are inciting tribalism for their political gains, and our aim during the 2026 presidential election is for them to park out of the State House and allow the UDP to take charge of the governance of the country,’’ Darboe stressed at a meeting in Brikamaba.

He blamed the Barrow government for not spending enough, saying that the money spent at the State House could have been utilized in supporting agricultural production and the security of the country, also adding that corruption is a key area that needs to be addressed by the government.

“Our security is not in safe hands. We are attacked in our homes in several circumstances which is no news to anyone living in the country. A government that cannot protect its citizens is not worthy of being given the responsibility to govern a nation,” he concluded.
