Man Pleads Guilty to Prohibited Drug

One Salifu Saidy yesterday appeared before Magistrate K.B Sambou of Brikama Magistrates’ Court on charges of ‘possession of prohibited drug’ contrary to Section 35 (2) (a) of the Drug Control Act 2014 as amended, Laws of The Gambia.

According to prosecutor M. Demba, who represented the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Salifu Saidy on or about the 08th day of November 2024, at Brikama, had in his possession, 100g Cannabis Sativa a prohibited drug thereby committed an offense.

Salifou admitted to the charge and prosecutor Demba applied for an adjournment to enable him to furnish the court with a brief of facts. The courts granted the said application, and the matter was adjourned to the 31st of December 2024. The accused was granted bail of D100,000 with one Gambian surety who shall depose to an affidavit of means. The said surety shall deposit a valid national ID card or passport to the court registrar.
