One Sadibou Jobe, yesterday Tuesday 17th December, appeared before the Magistrate K.B Sambou of BrikamaMagistrates’ Court on charges of ‘assault causing actual bodily harm’ contrary to section 214 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 volume 3 laws of The Gambia 2009.
The prosecution alleged in its indictment that, Sadibou Jobe, on or about the 19th June 2024, at Tanji sea side, wilfully and unlawfully set fire to a boat by throwing a petrol gallon with fire into the boat to wit: causing grievous bodily harm to Momodou S. Jallow and Alhagie Kawsu Leigh, thereby committed an offence.
Sadibou pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him by the court, prompting Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh objected to bail for the accused stating that ”it is evident that the first victim is present in this Honourable court, as the court can see the condition of the victim is very severe because half of his body is all burnt, which has nearly resulted to his death”.
Adding that the condition of the second victim was not stable, hence he could not appear in court.
The court granted the application made by the prosecution and the matter was adjourned to 17th January 2025. The accused was denied bail and remanded at the Mile II Central Prison.
