Lawyer Ousainu Darboe, opposition leader of the United Democratic Party(UDP), has called on Gambians to not allow themselves to be deceived by politicians who claimed to have brought road development projects to them, stating that the project costs do not belong to any politician, but Gambians.
During a political rally in Jarra Soma on the UDP nationwide tour, the veteran opposition leader downplays what he calls a ‘culture of doing a favour’ about one’s mandate for national development.
“The financing of the road projects they [politicians] are bragging about does not come from their pockets. Everything about it belongs to the Gambian citizens. Let us not accept this culture of ‘I am doing you s favour’. Nobody is doing favours for you by developing the roads you benefit from. I am telling you that the contract is signed by them [government], but that does not mean that they are doing favours to citizens,’’ Ousainu Darboe stressed in a meeting at Jarra Soma.
He frowned at the President for blaming electorates who did not vote for him [President] in the 2021 presidential election, adding that those electorates chose to vote against the President because he had failed to fulfill his 2016 promises to them.
‘’The reason they [electorates] did not vote for the President in 2021 was that he failed to fulfill his promises to them. Had he fulfilled his promises, the electorates he is blaming would have voted for him again,’’ Darboe pointed.
He called on Gambians to vote out the government of President Adama Barrow in 2026, claiming the country is heading in an undesirable direction that needs to be safeguarded by citizens of The Gambia.
