One Juma Jallow yesterday Tuesday 17th December appeared before the Magistrate I.O Njie of Brikama Magistrates’ Court on a 2-count charge of “threatening violence and resisting arrest to the police officers” contrary to Section 84 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3 Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009
According to the particulars of the offense, Juma, on or about the 25th day of November 2024, at Farato, resisted arrest by Farato Police Officers while in the due execution of their duties and threatened two police officers by pulling out a cutlass against them, thereby committing an offense.
Juma Jallow pleaded not guilty to both charges, prompting Inspector ML. Barrow, representing the Inspector General of Police, applied for an adjournment to enable him to secure his first witness. The prosecutor, however, did not object to bail for the accused.
Trial Magistrate Njie granted the application and granted the accused bail in the sum of D40,000 with one Gambian surety who shall depose to an affidavit of means. The surety shall deposit a valid national ID card or passport with the court registrar.
