The Association of Gambian Manufacturers (AGM) signed a history-making Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with its Senegalese counterpart yesterday, Thursday, December 19, 2024. The MOU aims to strengthen bilateral relations and ensure ease of trade and movement of goods and persons across both nations’ borders.
Speaking at the event that was held at the Sir Dauda Kairaba International Conference Center as part of the 2nd Gambia –Senegal Economic, Trade and Investment Forum, FarimangSaho, president of the AGM stated, “We are resolutely committed to empowering the Gambian private sector with the independence needed to create, produce, and distribute essential goods. The private sector is the heartbeat of our economy, and GMA binds the dynamic forces of our nation to forge a productive framework vital for our economic independence, benefiting our two million plus citizens.”
He further noted that the AGM represents the private sector’s voice, unifying the key industries in The Gambia that work tirelessly to shape the narrative of our economic independence. The mission of the AGM according to him is clear: to identify effective solutions to curb the influx of European imports that floods our market and contributes to the inflation burdening our communities.
Saho went on: “As the new president of GMA, I recognize the many challenges that have existed for years, challenges that should no longer divide our two nations. Although agreements are in place, periodic tensions arise at our borders. These instances of conflict are remnants of a bygone era and should not impede our shared aspirations. We are a small nation, embraced by the Nation of Senegal, home to 45 million people we respect and admire. We seek to coexist harmoniously with our respective independence, histories, and uniqueness. We aim to facilitate the passage of our road transporters, a vital pillar of our fragile economy. Our Nation should never overshadow your larger Nation, but work together for the common good of its citizens,” he explained.
He also add that the AGM and its private industries are hopeful that this forum will seal the collective commitment of all concerned in overcoming the border tensions that hinder the growth of our industries and obstruct our economic independence, all within a spirit of goodwill, devoid of animosity.
The AGM assured of his association’s dedication to ensuring a promising and prosperous future for The Gambia and Senegal’s respective economies, and industries, which will work together under optimal conditions.
