Modou Mboob, who has his eyes firmly fixed on Citizens Alliance’s secretary-general and party leader position, has accused the leadership of the Dr. Ismaila Ceesay-led CA of deviating from the party’s main agenda as well as compromising its values.
Mboob raised eyebrows over the party support for the ruling NPP, saying that he is not alone in calling for a change of baton at the top of the CA leadership. He added that prominent party members, including youths are more committed to ensuring the change of leadership he yearns for.
“CA is at a crossroads due to tremendous mistakes and failures from its leadership. The route the party is currently taking, especially with its involvement with the ruling government is not what the party signed up for or agreed to do. The leadership is currently deviating from the party’s main agenda and values, and thus needs to be held accountable by the members. As a founding member of this great political party, allowing it to be destroyed will be a failure on my part. Therefore, I’m challenging the current CA leadership on grounds of its failure to represent the party as per the wishes of its members and values. I believe I and my team will do an excellent job in building up the party from the grassroots and strengthen all our regional structures that are currently neglected,” he told The Voice in an interview on Thursday.
Mboob explained that his motivation to make a shot at the CA leadership is because he wants to bring back the party on track in alignment with the wishes of the majority of its members, adding that the current CA leadership has “truly disappointed” a lot of Gambians, especially the youths.
“And enough is enough! We the youths are now ready to take charge of our own destiny,” he emphasized.
“When we succeed in assuming the leadership role, I will ensure that I become a servant to the people, and when I say people, I mean party members. I and my team will go by the dictates of their wishes instead of pushing for an agenda that’ll be in one’s own personal interest. We will recruit more genuine people to the party who are service-oriented as politics requires one to have great support from the masses. The numbers indeed matter a lot. I and my team will draw up a feasible agenda that we’ll be selling to Gambians with the intention to act on each of the promises made thereof,” he added.
Mr. Mboob stated that if he succeeds, his leadership will be more accountable because they will involve the general membership in major decision-making processes.
“We will ensure that the current so-called partnership with the NPP is revisited. How can CA call this a partnership when everything that the party agreed to do with NPP does not happen? Not even a single document is signed. We will see to it that any alliance CA will be entered into does not represent an individual interest, but the general party structures are represented for the benefit of the party and the country. Or we could consider withdrawing from the current Alliance with NPP and open new doors for mutually-beneficial partnerships with other political parties for the interest of the country,” said Mboob.
