Ousman Jallow, one of the country’s youngest politician and founder of the Gambia People’s Liberation Party (GPLP), has officially resigned as chairman of the Coalition ‘TabaxReewmi’.
His resignation, according to him, points to unresolved internal conflicts and differing priorities within the coalition, which he attributes to breaches of agreements by coalition partner Ahmadou M.H. Kah. At the time of going to press, Kah cannot be reached for his reaction to Jallow’s claim.
Jallow said his decision stems from frustrations over what he referred to as “sidelining” of his party, GPLP, and its ally, the Progressive Movement, in coalition activities.
He has been vocal about the challenges of dishonesty in Gambian politics, criticizing the exploitation of illiteracy and the misuse of academic credentials as tools for personal and political gain rather than the country’s progress.
“There is need for caution in trusting political promises. I urge voters to prioritize leaders with a genuine commitment to the people’s welfare over those driven by self-interest,” he told The Voice in an interview.
