Alieu Loum is new Deputy Chief of Staff at Presidency

Mr Alieu Loum, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) was appointed as the new Deputy Chief of Staff at the office of the President with immediate effect. His appointment was made with the executive approval of His Excellency, President of the Republic of The Gambia.

Mr. Loum served as the Director General (DG) of the Department of Strategic Policy and Delivery (DSPD) before becoming Permanent Secretary at said ministry mentioned above.

As Permanent Secretary at the time, he played a pivotal role in coordinating Government Flagship Programs and significantly contributing to the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on key Government development priorities and projects.

In his new capacity as Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Loum will continue to oversee the Department of Strategic Policy and Delivery. He will also assume responsibilities that include: Tracking and reporting on the status of National Government Priorities, Projects, Programs, and Presidential Directives, providing practical interventions to address challenges within Government projects and programs.

Conducting independent assessments to ensure the accurate status of ongoing government projects, raising awareness about the progress and achievements of national government priorities through digital and print media and assisting in Cabinet proceedings alongside the Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service.

Quizzed as to how he felt about his appointment, Mr. Loum said: “It is all about trust and confidence President Adama Barrow bestowed on him and he promised to deliver as expected”.
