GRA Collects Over D20.83 Billion in Revenue for 2024

Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe has disclosed an outstanding revenue performance for the year 2024. 

The Authority exceeded expectations by collecting over D20.83 billion, surpassing the initial target of D19.2 billion by 8%. 

This remarkable achievement marks a 32% increase in revenue compared to the previous year and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the GRA team.

Darboe attributed this exceptional revenue performance to various reform initiatives aimed at widening the tax net and streamlining business processes. He highlighted the implementation of transformative programs such as the ASYCUDA WORLD system, the Single Window system, and the digitalization of systems and processes. 

These efforts have resulted in significant efficiency gains and facilitated the collection of over D5 billion more in revenue compared to 2023.

Speaking at the press conference, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Seedy Keita, commended GRA for its unprecedented achievement. He emphasized the government’s unwavering support and collaboration with the Authority, which has led to a 79% increase in revenue over the past two years. “This is the first time in the history of this country that the GRA has crossed the 20 billion mark.”

Keita highlighted the importance of introducing reforms and leveraging technology to drive efficiency gains without burdening taxpayers. He also announced tax rebates and adjustments that will benefit every employee in the country, stating, “The government is giving additional 12,000 tax-free income to every employee in this country, spreading the efficiency gains across the population.”

Lucy Faye Jagne, Chairman of GRA, expressed the institution’s commitment to continuous improvement and reform. She praised the GRA team for their hard work and dedication, underscoring the significant milestones achieved in 2024. noting, “GRA is highly committed in whatever they’re doing, and that’s what all you need in every institution. The year 2024 was marked by significant milestones.”

Jagne emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and implementing further reforms to enhance revenue collection efforts.

While the Gambia Revenue Authority’s record-breaking revenue collection of over D20.83 billion in 2024 marks a significant achievement, the real test lies in how these funds will translate into tangible benefits for the citizens. With hopes high for improved public services, infrastructure development, and social welfare programs, the onus is on the government to ensure that the increased financial resources directly impact the lives of the Gambian people. As taxpayers contribute to these impressive figures, they will be eagerly anticipating the positive outcomes that this revenue surge promises to bring to their communities, livelihoods, and overall quality of life.
