The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has issued an order for the remand in custody of one Momodou Salieu Jallow at the State Central Prison over allegations of threatening to commit murder and arson.
According to the particulars of the offence of count one, Momodou Salieu on or about 29 December 2024, in Kotu, threatened to kill anyone who attempted to stop him from cutting down pawpaw, banana, and orange trees planted in his family compound. He was also alleged to have threatened to set the compound on fire. Momodou Salieu allegedly issued the threats while holding a cutlass in his hand.
The details of count two indicated that the accused personwilfully and unlawfully damaged and destroyed banana, pawpaw, and orange trees by cutting them down, throwing the fruits away, and setting fire to the backyard, where these trees were planted, resulting in further destruction.
However, when the charges were read to him, Momodou Salieu denied wrongdoing.
Prosecution officer H. Jatta requested an adjournment to secure the prosecution’s witnesses and raised objection to bail, stating that the accused person is undergoing trial for similar offenses before Magistrate Thomas Touray. The prosecution further informed the court that Momodou Salieu was previously granted bail but did not report as required.
Magistrate B. Sowe, therefore, ordered him to be remanded at Mile II till the resolution of his bail issues. The case was then adjourned to Thursday, January 23, 2025.
