Njie Says Gitteh Should Exercise Restraint in UDP Leadership Matter

By: Momodou Justice Darboe

The UDP spokesperson for the North Bank Region has sharply reacted to Ahmad Gitteh’s remarks that Lawyer Ousainou Darboe constitutes UDP’s main problem, calling on Gitteh to show restraint in UDP leadership discourse if he decides to remain in the NPP.

Ahmad Gitteh was quoted as saying that 50% of UDP’s problem lies in the party’s leader, advising the UDP to effect a change at the top of its hierarchy.

However, UDP’s Karamo Njie said Gitteh should embark upon  soul-searching and self-assessment to be able to find out why he could not still win President Barrow’s heart despite sacrificing a lot for the President and the NPP.

“I’m sure this is what is expected of Ahmad Gitteh. He should ask himself why Sabally, Seedy Ceesay and Ismaila Ceesay are in the President’s good books while he is not despite sacrificing everything for the NPP.These individuals joined the NPP just yesterday but today, they are compensated with elevated positions. Ahmad Gitteh should ask himself what exactly has gone wrong between him and Barrow rather than being fixated on the UDP,” Njie said in an interview with this reporter on Wednesday.

The UDP regional spokesman asserted that if elections are the barometer to gauge Ousainou Darboe’s popularity, then the UDP leader has always been popular.

“Darboe’s victory was stolen in the 1996 general election and those that followed it. We are also aware that the 2021 presidential election was disputed by the UDP but the Supreme Court threw our case out based on technicalities,” said Njie.

He advised Gitteh to steer clear of the UDP matters if he still prefers to remain in the NPP.

“We don’t need any counsel from outsiders like Gitteh. In fact, as Barrow said about the UDP, we will do exactly what Gitteh advised us against,” he stated.

“As we speak, Darboe is our leader and we are confident that he would steer us to emphatic victory come 2026. If he prefers to step aside, we are ready to support any candidate of his choice,” added Njie.
