By: Isatou Sarr

Two men Musa Sallah and Yusupha Ann were on Friday arraigned before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on three-count charges of obtaining money by “pretending to exercise witchcraft or tell fortune”.

The charge sheet states that Musa Sallah and Yusupha Ann conspired to commit a felony by obtaining money by pretence in December of last year in Brikama and other locations.

The duo was also alleged to have pretended to perform witchcraft or tell fortunes for one Ebrima Jallow of Brikamain December 2024.

The details of the case indicated that Musa and Yusuphafraudulently obtained D60,000 from Ebrima Jallow, claiming they would use supernatural means to double the money—a representation they knew to be false.

They rejected the allegations.

Deputy Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh, representing the IGP, requested an adjournment for a full trial. ASP Sawanehpointed out that he was not opposed to bail for the accused persons but requested that the bail should not be lower than the amount of damage caused.

The accused was remanded on a D120,000 court bail as the case resumes on January,30th. They must provide three Gambian sureties, who must submit an affidavit of means, three ID cards or passports, and travel documents to the court registrar.

The case was presided by Magistrate A. Fofana.
