Nigerian man Emma Okeke was on Tuesday convicted by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court following his admission of culpability on charges of assault and causing malicious injuries to property.
In delivering her judgement, Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai factored in the fact that the convict did not waste thecourt’s time and that he was a first-time offender. She thenfined him D25,000 for assault in default to serve two years’ imprisonment. Principal Magistrate Mbai also imposed aD5,000 fine on Emma for malicious injuries to property in default to serve six months in jail. She further ordered the convict compensate the complainant with D10,000 failure of which he would be imprisoned for one year.
The details of count one read that Emma Okeke on 27 January 2024, wilfully and unlawfully assaulted Cpl. 6299 Alieu Sarr at the Serekunda police station by using his elbow to hit him on the nose, causing him injuries.
The details of count two indicated that Emma on the same day wilfully and unlawfully broke a chair at Serekunda police station valued at D10,000.
