A certain Abdoul Karim Njie on Tuesday appeared before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on charges of defiling a minor.
It’s alleged that Abdul Karim Njie, in August of last year had carnal knowledge of a girl aged between 16 and 18 years.
The incident allegedly happened in Brikama.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Sgt. M.L Sallah applied for an adjournment to enable him to present his witness and made no objection for bail for the accused person, who was already on police bail.
However, Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy in her response said the bail of the accused person depended on the victim.
Abdul Karim told the court that he knew the girl as they lived in the same area and that he was in a relationship with her.
When Magistrate Mendy asked the girl as to whether bail should be given to Abdul Karim, she replied in the negative because according to her, the accused person denied the charges “but he is the one and he has been doing it not only to me but to other girls”.
“My sister’s friend had a baby and he [Abdul Aziz] is the father,” she added.
Principal Magistrate Mendy then stated: “I have heard what the prosecution, the victim, and the accused person had to say. The matter is adjourned to Monday, 27th January, 2025, and the accused person should be remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison.”
