The Ministry of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services has announced the termination of Sparkling Multimedia Agency’s contract.
This decision, according to the ministry, arose from the agency’s failure to adequately promote ongoing government development projects and initiatives.
In 2024, the government entered into a D40M one-year contract with five media houses and two content creators with the objective of advancing government agendas. The contracted media houses are The Fatu Network, Star TV, QTV, Paradise TV, and Eye Africa, while Sparkling Multimedia and Fandema Multimedia serve as content providers. Each media house is reported to have received D5M.
According to a press release from the Ministry, Sparkling Multimedia Agency was engaged under a one-year service contract to generate content aimed at highlighting government’s development projects and initiatives.
“As part of the contractual agreement, the deliverables submitted by Sparkling Multimedia Agency and all other media contractors were subjected to review prior to the approval of the second payment request. During this performance review, it was determined that none of Sparkling Multimedia Agency’s deliverables met the standards necessary for broadcasting by the media houses,” the release stated.
“The Ministry sought legal counsel from the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General’s Chamber to determine the appropriate course of action, which resulted in the recommendation to terminate the contract,” it added.
The Ministry said the Sparkling Multimedia was formally invited to a meeting to discuss their “underperformance” but did not respond to this invitation.
“In conclusion, the public is hereby informed that the Ministry of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services has officially terminated the contract with Sparkling Multimedia Agency, effective September 2, 2025,” concluded the release.
