P2-P2RS Project Empowers Extension Workers with Motorbikes to Boost Agricultural Resilience

The Project for Strengthening Resilience to Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2-P2RS) recently marked a significant milestone by handing over nineteen motorbikes to extension workers. This initiative, part of Project 2 of the program, aims to empower smallholder farmers and enhance agricultural productivity in the region.

The event, held at the Central Project Coordinating Unit (CPCU) complex in Banjul, saw the presence of government officials and dignitaries. “It is indeed a pleasure and honor to preside over this important handing over ceremony of 19 motorbikes,” said Mod Ak Secka, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture. He emphasized the importance of equipping extension workers and urged them to make the best use of the resources provided.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Abdou Ceesay, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services,” highlighted the crucial role of mobility in extension service delivery. He expressed gratitude for the support provided by P2-P2RS and stressed the need for ongoing assistance to address challenges in livestock production. “Today, the Department of Livestock Services is receiving nine motorcycles,” he noted, emphasizing the impact of mobility on their work.

The Project Coordinator of the Central Project Coordinating Unit, Abdoulie Touray, commended the collaborative efforts of various projects and urged extension workers to prioritize project activities. “Projects have been providing support in terms of mobility to enhance the movement of extension workers,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the resources effectively.

Mr. Mustapha Drammeh, Deputy Director General from the Department of Agriculture,” informed the attendees about the support received by various projects. He emphasized the need for extension workers to use the provided resources efficiently and maintain their dedication to their work. He added, “I’m hopeful that extension workers will do their best and maintain it.”

The handover of motorbikes to extension workers is a significant step towards strengthening agricultural resilience and improving food security in the Sahel region. The commitment and support from the P2-P2RS project, along with funding partners like the African Development Bank, are key in advancing agricultural development and empowering smallholder farmers. With increased mobility and resources, extension workers are poised to make a positive impact on agricultural productivity and contribute to the overall growth of the sector.
