The local government commission of enquiry witnessed a tense and dramatic session as former KMC director of finance, Sheriff Njie, and former acting CEO, Fafa Cham, found themselves under the spotlight, facing rigorous questioning from counsel Gomez concerning alleged financial irregularities within the council.
“All transactions were meticulously recorded in the council’s main financial system,” asserted Mr. Njie as he defended the financial practices at KMC. However, counsel Gomez quickly honed in on the absence of a cash book for paying out cashier Saihou Sabally, leading to intense exchanges between Mr. Njie and Gomez. “The lack of a cash book for Mr. Saballyraises serious questions about accountability and transparency,” Gomez remarked.
