By: Dawda M. Jallow

The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has ordered the keeping of Lamin Sey and Mustapha Corr in custody, pending the determination of bail by the high court.

Presiding Magistrate Thomas Touray directed that Lamin Sey and Mustapha Corr remain in remand to facilitate their bail application at the high court, concerning count one. The request for bail on the remaining counts, said Magistrate Touray, will be deferred until the next adjournment date.

The prosecution charged the defendants with three counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, in violation of sections 43(4)(e) and 35(1)(a) of the Drug Control Act of 2003.

The particulars of the first count indicate that on September 6, 2024, at the Jalanfara Guest House in Kololi, as well as other locations within The Gambia, Lamin Sey and Mustapha Corr were in possession of 2 grams and 749 mg of cocaine.

The particulars of the second count state that the defendants possessed 1 gram and 11 mg of cannabis resin on the same date and at the same location.

The third count borders on conspiracy to commit an offense, as defined by section 53(1)(a) of the Drug Control Act of 2003. According to the particulars, Lamin Sey and Mustapha Corr allegedly entered into an agreement in September of last year to engage in activities, involving prohibited drugs.

The particulars of the fourth count detailed that the defendants were found in possession of two pills of Ecstasy, a controlled substance, on the same date and location.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecution sought for an adjournment to secure witnesses prior to the next court session. Consequently, the matter has been adjourned to January 22, 2025, for the determination of bail and the potential commencement of full hearing.
