Haddy Joof, the Lady President of Njoufen Women Vegetable Garden of Lower Nuimi has called on farmers to promote the use of organic manure on vegetables to increase soil nutrients. She made this known while speaking to The Voice during a media outing in Njoufen. The outings are part of efforts to encourage vegetable growers to value organic manure and strengthen smallholder farmers’ capacity to increase production and produce high-quality vegetables that promote consumers’ health.

Also, the practice is in line with government and civil society organizations’ commitment to promoting Agroecology practices to contribute to food security and enhance sustainable environmental management practices.

Madam Joof a seasoned vegetable grower hailed the women of Njoufen for their support in championing the use of organic manure, noting that the community has seen the benefits of organic manure on production and productivity. She used the opportunity to call on farmers to desist from chemical fertilizer as it hurts the soil whilst organic manure promotes the growth and development of plants.

Madam Joof also called on vegetable vendors and hoteliers to build closer relationships with gardens that are producing organic vegetables to ease marketing and boost their income. She went on to thank the  Njawara Agricultural Training Centre and other partners for building the capacity of farmers on compost making and its benefits on plants.
