MOTWI Kicks Off Nationwide Inspection of Ongoing Road Projects

By Yunus S. Saliu

The Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure (MOTWI), Honourable Ebrima Sillah alongside senior officials from MOTWI, the National Road Authority (NRA), and road construction contractors, commenced a countrywide inspection of ongoing road projects on Saturday, January 26, 2025. The weeklong tour, scheduled to run through January 31, aims to assess the progress of construction works and gather firsthand updates on several key infrastructure projects.

The inspection covered a variety of ongoing road projects, including urban and rural road categories. On day one, the team visited the 50km urban roads under Lots 1 and 2 in Kanifing Municipal and the West Coast Region. On subsequent days, the group will continue their site visits to projects across the country, including EPC Lots 5 and 6 in Brufut-Madiana, EPC Lots 8 and 9 in the West Coast Region, and several rural roads in Kiang West, Lower River, Upper River, and Central River regions.

Notable projects under inspection include the EPC Lot 5 project, a 4km road contracted to Bologel Limited, a Gambian-owned construction company. The project is currently 50% complete and features a double surface dressing road with two lanes of carriage, paved shoulders, sidewalks, parking spaces, streetlights, and drainage facilities.

Further along the inspection route, the team visited EPC Lot 6, a 28km project divided into three sections in the West Coast Region. The project is still in its early stages, with section 1 currently under construction.

Other highlights include the 4.5km Lot 9 Sanyang (Hawba) Road, which is 45% complete, and the 4.5km Lot 8 Gunjur Road project, which is 75% complete. Both projects are being carried out by Gambian-owned companies, with significant progress made in their respective constructions.

This nationwide tour underscores MOTWI’s commitment to ensuring that critical road projects progress efficiently and meet national infrastructure goals.
