NBR Agroecology Platform Engages Stakeholders on Organic Farming

The North Bank Regional Agroecology Platform with support from Action Aid International-The Gambia through Njawara Agricultural Training Center on Tuesday organized a day-long engagement with stakeholders on the development of annual plan of action.

The engagement was also aimed at updating stakeholders on the current status of the platform.

The synergy was held at ADWAC Conference Hall in Kerewan.

The Executive Director of Agency for the Development of Women and Children (ADWAC), Masamba Joof, described the convergence as important in providing social accountability on the activities of the platform for the past two years. He stated that the platform would promote the use of organic manure and mitigate the effects of climate change and boost food production, disclosing that GMO seeds are detrimental to soil nutrients and affects health of the population.

Director Joof advised farmers to be cautious of seeds they buy.

The Deputy Governor of North Bank Region, Dembo Samateh, thanked the organizers for the foresight, noting that the engagement would contribute to promoting farming practices that are environmentally-friendly and can contribute to food and nutrition security.

He called on farmers to adopt best agronomic practices and value the use of organic manure and agroforestry.

 

Deputy Governor Samateh thanked ADWAC and North Bank Marketing Federation SOLICITA for their unwavering support to women’s empowerment.

The Director of Njawara Agricultural Training Center, Alpha Sey, noted that the forum would help enlighten stakeholders on the importance of agroecology and its benefits on food production and animal breeding.

The Regional Chairman of National Livestock Owners Association, Ebrima Jallow, spoke about the need for farmers to support the agroecology platform in their quest to enhance food production.
