Man in Court for Alleged Assault

An alleged assailant Bubacarr Jallow was on Wednesday arraigned before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate B. Sowe.

The particulars of the offense indicated that on November 4, 2024, at Westfield in the Kanifing Municipality, Mustapha Jallow wilfully and unlawfully assaulted Shantige Dumbuya by striking him in the head with a stone, resulting in actual bodily harm.

The denied any wrongdoing. 

Testifying, the first prosecution witness Abubacarr Camara adduced that:”On that day, I was at my gate post when I heard a commotion nearby. I proceeded to investigate and saw the accused and the complainant. The accused was in possession of a pair of scissors, and I noticed the complainant, holding the accused’s shirt.”

Upon inquiring about the situation, the complainant explained that he had been standing in that location for an extended period, attempting to comprehend the circumstances.

“I advised the complainant to distance himself from the accused, as he appeared to be intoxicated. After some time, I returned to the complainant and saw that he was bleeding from his head, accompanied by another individual. When I inquired what had transpired, he informed me that the accused and his brother had assaulted him,” the witness told the court.

“Subsequently, we transported him to the police station to report the incident. While returning from the hospital, we encountered the accused in the company of three others,” he added.

During cross-examination, the accused questioned the witness about the scissors he had mentioned, asking for their location. The witness responded that he had informed the police officers that the accused possessed scissors, but a subsequent search yielded no evidence.

The accused asserted, “I contend that I have never seen you, and the statements you provided to this Honorable Court are untrue.” The witness countered, “If I had never seen you, how could I identify you at the police station?”

The case was then adjourned to Monday, February 10, 2025, for the continuation.
