The contractor for the Lot 2 road construction project, Cornerstone Construction, has assured that the project will be completed within the specified timeline.
Ing. Jonas Agymang of Cornerstone Construction, speaking to members of the press during the Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure (MOTWI) visit to the site at Reneru Wollof and other locations as part of his recent countrywide inspection of ongoing road projects, confirmed that work on the project began in 2023. The project covers 50 kilometers across three routes: Karantaba-Reneru-Tabanani-Demfaya-Fitu Fulla.
Agymang highlighted that significant progress has been made, particularly on the Karantaba-Reneru road, where most of the concrete structures are completed. He added that earthworks at the base level are currently underway at Laminkoto, with concrete works set to begin this week.
He reassured the public that the project will be completed within the established timeline, which targets mid-2025. “The project is progressing well, and we are not facing any major challenges that could delay the work,” Agymang stated.
In addition to road construction, Cornerstone Construction has been actively engaged in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the communities. Agymang shared that the company has drilled boreholes for local water access, provided food supplies to some communities, and employed around 32 casual workers. Additionally, 75 non-key staff are employed, with 40 of them being from the project corridor. As part of their commitment to community welfare, the company also donated a pickup vehicle to the police in Njau to assist with community patrols and enhance security.
Residents of Reneru Wollof expressed their appreciation for Cornerstone Construction’s contributions. Yassin Bah, a middle-aged woman, thanked the company for bringing drinkable water to the community, saying, “This has been a big relief to us and our cattle.” Marie Ceesay also expressed gratitude for the company’s support, particularly in engaging the youth and providing essential supplies to the community.
Cornerstone Construction’s efforts reflect a strong commitment to not only completing the infrastructure project but also positively impacting the surrounding communities.
