PDOIS official Sidia Jatta has emphasized the importance of defining a clear path towards system change, saying coalition formation is not a difficult task but determining how to bring about the change “we have been talking about is the real challenge.”
This statement underscores the urgency for a unified approach that prioritizes the aspirations of the Gambian people. The PDOIS leaders believe that engaging with the populace is crucial in shaping the process of system change, as it is the citizens, who ultimately hold the power to influence the future of their nation.
In a dialogue held on February 2nd, 2025, the People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) engaged with citizens at the Churchill’s Town Bureau.
The meeting, led by Chairperson Hon. Sidia Jatta and Secretary General Hon. Halifa Sallah, aimed to address pressing national issues and explore the feasibility of coalition formation ahead of the 2026 elections.
The dialogue highlighted the necessity for sincerity and commitment among potential coalition partners. Jatta reiterated that if there is a consensus on the method of achieving system change, the selection of individuals or organizations capable of executing this vision would follow naturally.
The PDOIS is keen on understanding public sentiment regarding this transformative process as it believes that it is the people’s voice that matters most in determining the future direction of the country.
As the nation gears up for the 2026 general election, the question remains: Can a coalition emerge that not only addresses the systemic issues at hand but also resonates with the hopes and needs of the Gambian people?
The results of these discussions will significantly influence the political landscape. The crucial question remains: Will the voices of the citizens be acknowledged, and can we expect a coalition to form ahead of the 2026 presidential election?
