NAFAA Leader Urges Strong Social Protection Policies for Gambians Living in Poverty

By: Fatou krubally

The leader of the National Alliance for Accelerated Advancement (NAFAA), Ousainou Allen, has called for the Gambian government to implement and expand upon its social protection policies to serve as an economic stabilisation mechanism for the half of Gambians living below the poverty line, especially those in rural areas.

Allen emphasized the importance of prioritizing the reintegration of deportees by proactively gathering data on potential deportations and dedicating resources to cater to their psychosocial and socio-economic needs.

He highlighted the inhumane treatment experienced by Gambians and Africans in developed nations facing mass deportations. He stressed the need for The Gambia and other African nations to build more global political capital to enhance diplomatic influence, credibility, and strategic partnerships on the world stage.

“We cannot stand by and watch as our people suffer from poverty and mistreatment in foreign lands,” Allen stated. “It is time for The Gambia to take back our sovereignty and ensure that Gambians are treated with dignity and respect both at home and abroad.”

As the NAFAA leader’s calls for strong social protection policies and focus on the reintegration of deportees gain traction, it is evident that the issue of poverty and deportation is a pressing concern that must be addressed to uplift and support the most vulnerable members of society.
