By: Dawda M Jallow

Police officer Samba Mballow on Tuesday testified in the trial of one Adama Jallow over obtaining money from certain Babucarr Ngum on the pretext of securing him a Canadian visa.

Adama allegedly received D350,000 from Babucarr at La Parisienne Restaurant along Kairaba Avenue on the pretext of securing him a Canadian visa.

He denied wrongdoing.

Testifying before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, officer Jallow attached to the Serious Crime Unit of the GPF, stated that he had been assigned by his supervisor Superintendent Dibba to meet with Babucarr Ngum at Westfield. He explained that when they met, Ngum complained that he gave Adama three million CFA equivalent to D350,000.00 but he failed to facilitate the visa application for Canada as promised. Officer further testified that Adama was arrested the same day and when confronted with Baboucarr’s complaint, he admitted that he gave D50,000 to one Mr. Mareka in the presence of officer Mballow. Mballow later explained that the accused paid D70,000 to Ngum at the Senior Crimes Unit and was cautioned.

During the cross-examination, Adama inquired as to whether a specific date was set for him to locate Mareka and the witness responded in the affirmative, indicating that sufficient time was given the accused to locate Mareka. However, the accused contended that he was not given a reasonable time to provide information, regarding Mareka’s whereabouts.

The case continues.
